In India the culture is that when people visit any temple, they first take darshan of the Deity, hear some talk regarding the importance of devotional service (Hari-katha) and receive the Deity’s mercy in the form of His maha-prasada. Thus distributing prasada to visiting pilgrims is an integral part of Deity worship and Vedic culture as it has been practiced from time immemorial in India.
Here in ISKCON Mayapur, we serve fresh, healthy, sumptuous prasada in small cups to pilgrims on a daily basis, twice a day: at 11 am and at 5 pm. On ekadasis, we provide ekadasi prasada (such as fruits and other non-grain prasada) as per standard Vedic culture. The pilgrims receive the prasada while chanting Hare Krsna, and as anyone can see, they become happy when they honor Krishna’s prasada.
